Adornment celebrates the creative diversity of Mundaring Arts Centre Inc.’s artistic members from across Western Australia, inviting each to offer their personal perspective, in response to this year’s theme.
Since the earliest known use of the word adornment, over 800 years ago, it has been synonymous with embellishment and as a device to define the cultural, social and religious values of a specific community.
Celebrating the ability to transform the ordinary - bringing beauty, individual expression and to attract attention, the theme was designed to encourage artists to submit works that express their interpretation of the word through multi-media, textile, jewellery, ceramics, sculpture and painting.
Bringing together over thirty artists, this exhibition explores the many ways we adorn the world around us. Each work offers a unique interpretation on the theme – from personal expressions of beauty and individuality, to reflections on cultural traditions and responses inspired by nature.
The collective works highlight the breadth of skill within the MAC Inc. community, while honouring adornment as both an artistic and cultural practice, revealing the diverse ways artists continue to bring meaning and beauty to contemporary life.
Through Adornment, we celebrate our members’ contribution to the cultural vibrancy of Western Australia, while inviting audiences to reflect on the many forms of expression that adorn and enrich our homes, communities, and everyday life.
