FAR HORIZONS | RIC BURKITT

  • Mundaring Arts Centre 7190 Great Eastern Highway Mundaring, WA, 6073 Australia (map)

Ric Burkitt, Big Sky Day, 2024, oil on canvas, 61 x 61 cm

An exhibition of landscape paintings reflecting observations in the urban environment within an hour’s drive from the artist's home. Works originate from the emotive response to the sky and land as they meet at the horizon, of the perfection of nature and the beautiful sprawl of man-made paddocks and farmland.

Far Horizons, explores the often-overlooked relationship between the sky and the land. This collection reminds us of how we often focus on one element or the other without fully acknowledging their dynamic connection. The sky, though vast and empty, is full of potential—charged with light and shadow that shift over time. Meanwhile, the land is a tangible, textured entity, constantly being reshaped and defined by the atmosphere and by human hands.

By focusing on these interrelations, the exhibition invites viewers to pause and notice how these elements are intertwined in our daily lives, encouraging a more holistic view of the natural and man-made world. The oil and acrylic works explore the spaces leading to where air meets land at the horizon. This balance and interplay between the elements are essential in shaping our perception of the environment.

In Far Horizons, Ric Burkitt expresses his connectedness to where he lives and invites viewers to share in its familiarity and beauty. He encourages viewers to reflect on how these two realms interact, highlighting the subtle yet significant ways they influence our daily lives and our sense of place.
