Specimens is a series of works on paper in which Tim Maley represents the intricate bodies of beetles, moths, butterflies and caterpillars. With delicate marks made in watercolor and pencil, Maley captures the fragility of the insects and imbues the pictures with a sense of wonder and reverence.
Maley began his working relationship with DADAA in 2007 to make a film titled Into the Sun as part of the Lost Generation Project. He exhibited the work at Darlington Arts Festival in 2009. This exhibition began his relationship with the Mundaring Arts Centre, who auspiced his grant, with mentor Si Hummerston, and curated his 2010 exhibition at the Centre.
Since 2012, Maley has been supported by DADAA’s digital studio and has exhibited works in notable exhibitions including From the Outside, Alcaston Gallery, Victoria; Small World, UK, HERE&NOW13, Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery and Beyond the Western Edge, Goldfields Arts Centre, Kalgoorlie.
