'The Body In Question' Ceramic Workshop Series with Bernard Kerr

  • Midland Junction Arts Centre 276 Great Eastern Highway Midland, WA, 6056 Australia (map)

“Representations of the human body reflect deep-seated attitudes, beliefs, and values in cultures.”

Join renowned ceramicist Bernard Kerr in a series of workshops exploring the evolution and development of figure sculpture. You will learn about how the human body has been represented throughout the ages and the nature of the ceramic medium as you investigate modeling, carving, firing, and glazing. Through the sessions you will use an armature and construct a ceramic sculpture of the human body based on your own ideas, creating a unique piece with aspects of realism and abstraction. During the workshops, the group will discuss aesthetics, proportion and the notion of the body canon, as you work towards your completed sculpture up to 60 centimeters in size.
