Join renowned visual artist Angela Stewart for a drawing workshop focusing on the significance of horses and their role in history. You will experiment with charcoal and mixed media on paper, working in both traditional and experimental approaches.

After the workshop, join in the festivities of the Midland Junction Arts Centre Open Day. From 2pm - 4pm the Centre comes alive with exotic sounds, sights and smells as the Tamil Association welcomes visitors to enjoy traditional dance and food whilst viewing the two exhibitions, Horse Drawn and Vahana, Vehicle of the Gods.

Angela Stewart is a Visual Artist whose art practice and research focuses on the interplay between historical and contemporary portraiture in drawing, paint/ed photography. Alongside her interest in portraiture she has worked with the horse motif for many years due to her son Heath’s love of the Australian Stock horse and camp drafting.

Stewart has exhibited in several solo such as (selected); Tripartite ArtcollectiveWA 2016, Among other things … Perth Galleries, WA, 2013, Unlacing Carnal Margins: Portraits by Angela Stewart John Curtin Gallery, Curtin University, 2010, and 3 Women Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery 1999 and in group exhibitions; Sydney Contemporary Art Fair 2013 (ArtcollectiveWA), and (invitation) Black Swan Portrait Prize (Eveline Kotai) 2013 (Joan London) 2008. She received a Doctorate in Creative Art from Curtin University in 2010 and taught for many years in major Tertiary Institutions. In 2013 she became a foundation member of artcollectiveWA. She is in several major collections such as Curtin University, BHP Billington, University of Western Australia, Edith Cowan University, WA, BankWest, Kedumba Drawing Award, NSW and Cruther’s Collection of Women’s Art.
