“Animals represent human qualities by reflecting attributes linked to individual personality traits, attitudes and behaviours”
In this workshop series you will join renowned ceramicist Bernard Kerr to investigate ceramic animal sculpture, examining how animals have been symbolically represented in throughout the ages. Over the course of the workshops you will learn about the nature of the ceramic medium by exploring techniques such as modelling, carving, firing and glazing. You will learn how to use an armature and how to construct a ceramic sculpture of an animal based on your own ideas. Issues related to realism and abstraction, symbolism, aesthetics and proportion will be discussed as you work towards your completed sculpture up to 50 centimetres in size.
