SANDBOX ANIMATION WORKSHOP WITH STEVEN AITON

Popular animator Steven Aiton will teach stop motion techniques to capture the movement and stories of horses using a lightbox lled with sand. In the session you will create your drawings in the sand, then using an ipad / camera capture your images, they will then come to life with the uid motions transformed into a short lm. Your animation can be displayed as part of the Horse Drawn Exhibition at Midland Junction Arts Centre for the HABITS OF HORSES Project 11 August - 10 Sept.

Join professional artists Peter Dailey, Marie Haass, Thomas Hoareau, Penny Coss and Linda Van der Merwe to explore a different approach to drawing each week.

Investigate structural and perspective drawing; shaping charcoal to create form; symbolism and still life with mixed media; layering information with coloured pencil to capture the detail of commonplace objects; the mark as an extension of the hand.

This workshop series is an opportunity to approach drawing from a new perspective each week and explore a range of techniques and mediums.

In the Month of March artist Ross Potter will be in residence at Midland Junction Arts Centre creating a large scale work on paper exploring the subtlety of a horse’s anatomy. Ross’ residency is the first in a long line of exciting workshops, residencies, exhibitions and demonstrations leading up to the Habits of Horses exhibition in August. Keep an eye on our website for dates you can visit Ross’ studio and for other opportunities to get involved in an amazing project celebrating a majestic creature.
