ACT-BELONG-COMMIT MUNDARING ENVIRONMENTAL ART PROJECT 2017

This annual environmental art project provides an opportunity for primary school children in the Shire of Mundaring to engage with local and global environmental issues and promote a positive message about the importance of protecting the earth.

THEME FOR 2017: LEAF LITTER - Hidden Habitats at Our Feet

Who is hiding in the leaves? Students investigate life in the leaf litter to understand food webs and the important role of the small creatures and organisms in ecosystems. The students’ artwork is a creative, imaginative response to their research.

To take part in this project students:

  • Research the 2017 topic LEAF LITTER – HIDDEN HABITATS AT OUR FEET
  • Create an artwork / design on A4 paper based on their research
  • Submit their A4 banner design to the Mundaring Arts Centre by Friday 13 October to be exhibited at Mundaring Arts Centre from Friday 20 October to Sunday 19 November.

Sixteen prizes to the value of $80 will be awarded to eight winners in the lower primary & eight winners in the upper primary category. Schools receive $70 per winning banner design. Highly Commended book prizes are also awarded to students for exceptional entries.

The winning students are invited to Mundaring Arts Centre to paint their designs on large banners. The banners are displayed publicly for one year in the Mundaring Town Centre. Mundaring Environmental Art PROJECT 2016

In 2016 four hundred and fifty-four school students from eleven primary schools investigated the theme, ‘CONSERVING OUR WATERWAYS’. Students from Chidlow, Gidgegannup, Middle Swan, Mundaring, Sawyers Valley, Mount Helena, St Anthony’s Greenmount, Treetops Montessori, Pickering Brook, Helena College and Wooroloo primary schools explored ways to care for local creeks, wetlands, rivers, lakes and catchment areas. Several City of Swan schools participated for the first time.

Sixteen beautiful banners are now hanging outside the Mundaring Shopping Centre on Great Eastern Highway near the Nichol Street turn off.
