Phew! It's more than a month since our last post, and in that time the heARTlines festival has been raging, weaving its magic with classrooms and busloads and roomfuls of people. I think everyone who saw the exhibition left feeling more creative and more inspired than when they arrived, which is such a wondrous thing to be able to achieve.
I have personally sat in on workshops where entire classrooms of children have walked away holding a piece of ‘two-thumbs-up’ art they have created under the guidance of a WA illustrator, or where every child in the room has their hand up begging to ask a question of a WA author.
heARTlines has become an integral part of the literary calendar for the Perth hills, and it’s a vital step towards encouraging and invigorated children’s passion for literature—and increasing literacy levels.
It was a stupendous festival this year...so many great opportunities, wonderful people, beautiful books and talented artists, and I really want to say thank you to the team at the Mundaring Arts Centre for making it all happen. They really are the rock on which festivals like this can happen.
Thanks also to our incredible sponsors: The Shire of Mundaring, the Mundaring Community branch of the Bendigo Bank, the Western Australian Branch of the Children's Book Council of Australia, and the Western Australian Department of Community and the Arts. Your generosity makes heARTlines possible.
I'll leave it to our festival participants to paint the rest of the heARTlines picture...and I'm already looking forward to heARTlines 2017! See you then everyone!
