Calling all detectives, wanna-be detectives and lovers of fast-paced and funny adventure stories! If you're into mystery, action and comedy, you'll love Jen Banyard's workshops and books. Jen's funny and fabulous and presenting workshops for heARTlines this year.
We're so excited to have her!
Thanks Jen for answering our four fab festival questions!
2. Where did inspiration for those books come from?
For both books I was inspired by the fact that we sometimes make unkind assumptions about others based on very little.
For ‘Mystery’, I wanted to have a bit of fun with the ‘Twilight’/vampires obsession (not that I don’t love vampires!).
For ‘Runaway’ I hoped to seed the idea that we can come back from messing up.
Both books are the sort of good old-fashioned adventures that I’d like to have had!
3. What’s your advice to aspiring writers or illustrators of children’s books?
Show up for ‘work’ on a regular basis, even if it’s only to write fifty words … and disconnect from the internet. Go on, you can do it!
4. What did you have for breakfast this morning?
A banana, avocado and spinach smoothie – yum!
You can see more of Jen and buy her books when you book a workshop at this year's heARTlines festival in Mundaring, where we'll be exhibiting awesome artwork from Western Australia's most fabulous children's illustrators, and featuring workshops from WA's best children's authors and illustrators, from 15 May till 28 June 2015.
The exhibition is FREE, and we'll be releasing more information about primary school, high school and public workshops soon...watch this space.
