ABOUT THE 2017 FESTIVAL
Since 2005, MAC has celebrated the art of children’s book creation through the Act-Belong-Commit heARTlines Children's Literature and Illustration Festival - a month-long festival of workshops, talks and demonstrations, complemented by an outstanding exhibition of original book illustrations from recently published children’s literature by WA authors and illustrators in May / June 2017.
The 2015 heARTlines Festival was an incredible event with around 2,000 people joining us at MAC to celebrate West Australian literature and children’s book creation. In 2017 the event will occur at the newly re-invigorated Midland Junction Art Centre (MJAC) space and we anticipate a much wider reach across the Perth Hills.
Curated by author Cristy Burne, and hosted by MAC, some of WA's most talented authors and illustrators have been invited to facilitate hands-on workshops, presentations, demonstrations and an exhibition to engage and excite our community about literature and the arts.
The exhibition of book illustrations will be held at the gallery spaces at MJAC featuring artwork by Moira Court, James Foley, Frané Lessac, Matt Ottley, Kyle Hughes-Odgers, Kylie Howarth, Terry Denton, Aska, Chris Nixon, Brian Simmonds and more. This extensive exhibition will display original large scale illustrations and paintings, initial sketches and a unique insight into an artists’ process from idea to final product.
